The Backyard Rules
We don't usually have referees, so it's important to know and follow the rules. Failure to follow these rules may result in: 1. Getting yelled at. 2. Getting yelled at again. 3. Sitting out a game. 4. Sitting out the day. 5. Banishment.
1. Goggles and
Face Masks

You must have real painball goggles with a face mask, The goggles are so your eyes don't get shot out, the mask is so the rest of us don't have to look at your face whelts. Your goggles MUST be on during play unless you enter the staging building. If you take your goggles off during a game the best thing that will happen to you, is you will get yelled at, the worse thing is, you could be blinded for life. Goggles only come off when ALL barrel plugs are in or when your inside the staging building.

2. Barrel Plugs You must have a barrel plug for your gun. If you don't, you can buy one at the staging building. Barrel plugs MUST be in your gun at all times between games. Plugs come out only when everyone's goggles are on.
3. Waiver All players must sign the BACKYARD Waiver exempting Mike from any liability for injury.
4. Paintball Speed 290 FPS. The Backyard has 2 chronies.
5. Cheating We're not playing in a tournament, so there's no reason to cheat. There are not usually any refs, so it's honor system. If you get shot just say "OUT". The games are over in 15 to 30 minutes, so just wait 'till the next game. Cheaters will be killed and eaten, Okay, Okay, Serial cheaters will be banned.
6. Act like an IDIOT
(or "ALAI")
No abusive behavior, language or actions. We're not playing in a tournament, so there's no reason to ALAI. Be nice, play nice, we're all here to have a good time and make friends, not act like RAMBO. If you want to ridicule other players or act like a hard guy, go play somewhere else! Use the Golden rule, I.E. "Do unto others as do would have one unto you!"
7. 20 Foot Rule The 20 foot rule doesn't work, see #8
8. 10 Foot Rule Don't shoot any player closer than 10 feet away, basically it means shoot him before he gets any closer than 10 feet away! That means, when a bad guy is moving toward you, don't hide 'till he gets super close and then pop up and shoot him. Paintball hits hurt more when your close! We used to have a 20 foot rule but 20 feet seemed to somehow, often, turn into 10 feet. Sometimes 10 feet turns into 5 feet. Actually the 10 foot rule doesn't always work that well either, but try.
9. Overshooting Nobody likes to take 3 or 4 hits before he/she can call themselves out, do not shoot more than 3 shots at a player without out pausing to see if any of your shots hit the target. This is especially true when at close range or when you really got the drop on someone. There is no need to hose a person who, because of the situation, is unable to return fire. Use some common sense, and the Golden Rule.
10. Returning Fire Players in Objectives (Flag Forts, etc.) must return fire. If for some reason you cannot return fire, you must leave the bunker or surrender.
11.

Hits/Elimination/
Marked, etc.

An "elimination" is getting hit anywhere on you or your gun by a paintball that breaks, spray from a near hit can count if it is more than a quarter in size. Bounces don't count. When this happens yell, loudly "OUT" or "HIT" is is also a good idea to raise a hand or gun. Then put in your barrel plug and leave the game. If you don't yell loud enough or just start walking out, or mill around, you may get shot some more. If this is the case, you only have yourself to blame. Once any of the above signals are made they cannot be reversed (exception, the firing player was already hit and didn't know it). The firing player, on seeing any of the the above signals from the "hit"player WILL IMMEDIATELY CEASE FIRING ON THAT PLAYER AND LET THEM LEAVE THE GAME. Is is a good idea for eliminated players to hold their barrel plugged gun up to be seen and announce their "deadman" status as they are leaving the game to avoid extra hits. Eliminated players cannot talk to players still in the game.
12. Boundaries Boundaries (on the most part) are marked by fences and yellow tape. Stay "in bounds".
13. Flag Carrier Rules If a flag carrier is hit, he MUST immediately drop the flag and leave the game as any normal tagged player would. The flag cannot be touched by the owning (same color as the flag) team, but can be guarded for the remainder of the game. Only the enemy team can move a flag.
